4. Cooling system

The cooling system of the closed type, includes a radiator, the thermostat, the centrifugal pump of cooling liquid, the electric fan of cooling, hoses and switches. The drive of the pump is carried out by means of a maple belt from a crankshaft pulley.

The system functions as follows. Cooling liquid moves the water pump on the block of cylinders and a head of the block of cylinders, coming through an inlet collector, a radiator of an oven and the carburetor to the thermostat case.

When the motor is not warmed, cooling liquid comes back from the thermostat case to the water pump. When cooling liquid reaches a certain temperature, the thermostat opens, and cooling liquid comes through the top hose to a radiator. At that time, while cooling liquid circulates through a radiator, it is cooled with an air stream at the movement of the car. In case of need, cooling of liquid is helped by also electric fan. After achievement of the lower part of a radiator liquid is cooled and the cycle is repeated again.

At a normal working temperature of the engine cooling liquid extends, and a part it gets through the thin hose connected to a mouth of a jellied stopper of a radiator to a broad tank. After the system is cooled, the gathered cooling liquid in a tank comes back to a radiator.

On some models cooling liquid passes also through the oil heater.

The electric fan (fans) of cooling located ahead of a radiator is controlled by the thermostat switch. At a certain temperature of cooling liquid the switch turns on the fan.


Do not try to uncover a jellied mouth of a radiator or to rearrange any part of the cooling system when the motor is warmed as there is a big risk to get burn. In case the jellied mouth of a radiator has to be uncovered before the motor and a radiator completely cooled down (though it and it is not recommended), first of all it is necessary that pressure fell in the cooling system. For avoidance of a burn cover a cover with a thick piece of a rag and slowly unscrew it until hissing sounds. When hissing stops, indicating that pressure fell, continue to unscrew slowly a cover until then when it can be removed. If hissing repeats, wait until it completely does not disappear. All the time when opening a stopper try to hold yours a face and hands at safe distance.

Do not allow a situation that antifreeze got on your skin or on the painted surface of the car. Immediately wash out the spread liquid water. Never assume that antifreeze was near you in an open container or formed a pool on the road or on a floor in a garage. Children and pets are attracted by a pleasant smell of antifreeze, and in case of its hit in an interior, it can lead to a lethal outcome.

In case the motor is warmed, the electric fan can begin to rotate even if the motor does not work. You watch the hands, hair, spacious clothes when you work with the motor.
