2.2.2. Check of turns of idling and quality of mix

CARBURETTOR ENGINES (1,6 L) WITHOUT CATALYTIC CONVERTER

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check installation of the moment of ignition (see subsection 7.7.7).
2. Make sure that candles in the normal state and gaps in candles meet standard (see subsection 2.2.3 and subsection 7.7.2).
3. Check adjustment of a cable of the drive of a butterfly valve (see subsection 6.1.7).
4. Check durability of fastening of hoses of ventilation of a case, lack on them of excesses and leaks.
5. Check purity of the air filter and air ducts.
6. Check a condition of the exhaust system (see subsection 2.3.10).
7. At emergence of signs of abnormal operation of the engine check a compression in engine cylinders (see subsection 3.1.1.2).
8. Quality of mix (contents WITH in exhaust gases) is established industrially and at operation is not regulated. However, if the composition of mix is broken (as a result of the general wear of the engine, or after repair of the carburetor), then contents WITH can be restored what requires a gas analyzer. In the absence of the device adjustment is carried out at car repair shop.
9. Warm up the engine, having made a trip.

Prevention

It is necessary to modify mix for no more than two minutes after a trip, without stopping the engine. If it is impossible or if the fan of the cooling system is not switched off, then wait for a fan stop. Produce excess fuel in the soaking-up collector for what 2–3 times bring engine turns to 2000–3000 rpm, and again transfer the engine to the idling mode.

10. Make sure that all consumers are disconnected. If the car is not equipped with a tachometer, then connect a tachometer according to the instruction on this device. Define and remember idling turns, compare them to standard.
11. The screw of adjustment of turns of idling is located from the back party of the carburetor, access to it is provided behind the air filter. Turning or unscrewing the screw, establish the required idling turns.
12. If there is a gas analyzer, then, according to the instruction on the device, measure contents WITH in the fulfilled gases. If necessary adjust composition of mix the quality screw which is located directly under the screw of turns of idling.
13. Rotating the quality screw on small corners, achieve the necessary contents WITH in the fulfilled gases. At a screw wraparound (rotation clockwise) mix is impoverished and the SO level goes down, at a screw otvorachivaniye mix is enriched and the SO level increases.
14. Upon termination of disconnect devices and again check idling turns, if necessary adjust.

THE CARBURETTOR ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Adjust idling turns.
2. Being guided by item 8, check and adjust composition of mix idling for what arrive as follows.
3. Stop the engine and turn the ignition key in situation "off". Disconnect the socket from the sensor of the fulfilled gases (the sensor is screwed in a final collector) and from the solenoidal air valve (it is mounted on the soaking-up collector on the left side.
4. Remove a cap from a tube of selection of exhaust gases which is on the left side of a final collector and attach a gas analyzer to this tube.
5. Start the engine. Produce excess fuel in the soaking-up collector for what 2–3 times bring engine turns to 2000–3000 rpm, and again transfer the engine to the idling mode. Make sure that contents WITH corresponds specified in subsection 2.1.
6. If necessary adjust contents WITH for what get from the carburetor the thin tool the restrictive plug to provide access to the screw of quality of mix which is located directly under the screw of turns of idling.
7. Rotating the quality screw on small corners, achieve the necessary contents WITH in the fulfilled gases. It is measured in a tube of selection of exhaust gases (it is specified by an arrow). At a screw otvorachivaniye (rotation clockwise) mix is impoverished and the SO level goes down, at a screw wraparound mix is enriched and the SO level increases.
8. Upon termination of disconnect the device, install the new restrictive plug on the quality screw. Establish a cap on a tube of selection of gases, attach sockets to the sensor of exhaust gases and to the solenoidal valve.
9. Upon termination of disconnect the device and again check idling turns, if necessary adjust.

ENGINES WITH FUEL INJECTION

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Stop the engine and turn the ignition key in situation "off". Disconnect the socket from the sensor of an angle of rotation of a butterfly valve which is mounted sideways on the case of a butterfly valve.
2. Start the engine. Produce excess fuel in the soaking-up collector for what 2–3 times bring engine turns to 2000–3000 rpm, and again transfer the engine to the idling mode. Make sure that turns of idling correspond specified in subsection 2.1.
3. If necessary adjust idling turns, rotating the adjusting screw which is located on the right side of the camera of a butterfly valve (it is specified by an arrow). Turning or unscrewing the screw, achieve the necessary turns of idling.
4. After adjustment stop the engine and attach the socket to the sensor of an angle of rotation of a butterfly valve.
5. Content WITH in the fulfilled gases can be determined independently, in the presence of sufficient experience and qualification, and also the necessary equipment (including an exact tachometer and the confided gas analyzer). However, if need of adjustment is found WITH, then the refusal of a processor control system of the engine (ECCS system) can be a probable cause. Contents WITH is not subject to independent adjustment.
6. If discrepancy of contents WITH standard is found, then check serviceability of the sensor of exhaust gases and details of system of injection of fuel, using for this purpose function of self-diagnostics of ECCS system (see subsection 6.2.11). If at self-examination malfunction is found, then the car should be handed over in service of car service for testing.
