Methods and safety measures

If the decision on dismantle of the engine for carrying out capital repairs, or repair of the main knots was made, then it is necessary to hold certain preparatory activities.

It is extremely important to plan the place in which works will be performed. Undoubtedly, the best place is the workshop. It is very important to have the equipped working platform, and also the place for storage of the car. If there is neither workshop, nor a garage, then the flat and pure platform will be required at least.

Washing of a motor compartment and the power unit before dismantle will allow to keep the tool clean and the constant working condition.

Also the floor elevator or a telfer will be necessary. Make sure that these devices have a stock on loading capacity and are capable to sustain engine weight with all units and transmission. Observance of security measures plays here a paramount role as raising of the engine from the car – operation potentially dangerous.

If works on dismantle of the engine are carried out by the inexperienced person, then the assistant is necessary. Consult and ask to help the persons having experience in such works. There is a set of examples of that as attempts to alone execute dismantle of the engine with raising of the last of a motor compartment came to an end unsuccessfully.

In advance plan the actions. Hire or buy all necessary tools and the equipment before beginning works. To some devices ensuring safety at dismantle and installation of the engine, and also decrease in labor costs belong (besides the elevator): a jack cart of sufficient loading capacity, a full set of keys and mandrels which list is provided in the beginning of the present manual, wooden blocks, rags and solvent for cleaning of inevitable pools from the spilled working liquids of the engine. If the elevator is hired, then agree about it in advance, at first having performed all works in which this mechanism is not necessary. It will allow to save money and time.

Keep in mind that considerable time you will not be able to use the car. For performance of some works inaccessible in house conditions due to the lack of the special equipment, it is necessary to address in a workshop of car service. These enterprises work according to the schedule and will be expedient to consult there before dismantle of the engine precisely to estimate expenses of time for repair or restoration of details.

Always at dismantle and installation of the power unit be very attentive. Rash actions can be the cause of serious injuries. In advance consider the actions. Do not feel sorry on it for time because the main thing – work without injuries.

On all cars considered in this manual, the power unit falls and gets from under the car.
